UN Committee on Enforced Disappearances to review Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Colombia

GENEVA (27 September 2016) –The UN Committee on Enforced Disappearances (CED), is meeting in Geneva from 3 to 14 October to review these States for the first time: Bosnia and Herzegovina and Colombia. 

The Committee, which is composed of 10 international independent human rights experts, monitors implementation of the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance. Bosnia and Herzegovina and Colombia are among the 52 States that have to date ratified the Convention and so are required to submit a report for review to the Committee.

The sessions will be at the following times in Geneva: Bosnia and Herzegovina: 15:00 to 18:00 on 4 October; 10:00 to 13:00 on 5 October and Colombia: 10:00 - 13:00 and 15:00 - 18:00 on 6 October. The meetings will take place at Palais Wilson, Geneva, and be webcast at http://webtv.un.org/

Committee members will discuss a range of issues relating to implementation of the Convention with the respective State delegations, and also hear from NGOs and national human rights institutions. The International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance marks its 10th anniversary in 2016.  The Convention was adopted by the UN General Assembly on 20 December 2006 and came into force on 23 December 2010.
