Background
The Independent Expert on the enjoyment of human rights by persons with albinism, Ms. Muluka-Anne Miti-Drummond will conduct a country visit to the Republic of Madagascar from 20 to 30 September 2022 in order to assess the human rights situation of persons with albinism in the country. In this regard, she would also like to observe any good practices and initiatives that have been taken to assist and support persons with albinism in the country.
During the visit, she plans to meet with representatives of the State including relevant Government ministries, representatives of the judiciary and Parliament. She plans to also meet with representatives of national human rights institutions, and a wide range of non-government stakeholders including civil society organizations, academia, representatives of persons with albinism and persons with albinism themselves.
Objectives
The visit will allow the Independent Expert to meet with a broad range of stakeholders who can provide pertinent information that can ultimately assist in the drafting of recommendations to assist the Government and stakeholders to improve the human rights situation of persons with albinism.
At the end of the visit, the Independent Expert will present an end of mission statement and/or press release containing her preliminary findings. The Independent Expert aims to present her full visit report to the Human Rights Council in March 2023.
