Call for contributions for the follow-up reports on the Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances country visits to Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan

Purpose: In accordance with the Methods of Work, the Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances (hereinafter, ‘the Working Group’) may take initiative to carry out follow-up measures to its country visits. In this regard, the Working Group decided at its 131st Session to assess the situation and the steps taken for the implementation of its recommendations or constraints faced by the Governments of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan in response to its recommendation following its visits undertaken in 2019. The follow up assessment is based on the information submitted by the Governments, as well as from civil society organizations and other relevant sources. The Working Group will present its follow-up reports to the Human Rights Council in September 2024.

Objectives:

Follow up reports to country visits serve as a reminder to the States of the observations and recommendations made in country visit reports. In conducting follow ups, the Working Group requests the States to provide information on:

  • the implementation of the recommendations made in the country visit reports,
  • the steps taken to implement the recommendations, and
  • the constraints affecting such implementation.

In this regard, all family members, civil society organizations, human rights defenders and other concerned actors working on Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan are invited to provide by 15 March 2024 their observations on the implementation of the recommendations contained in the Working Group’s reports on Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.

Interested stakeholders are encouraged to review the country visit reports and the attached templates, provide their inputs and send them to the Working Group’s Secretariat at hrc-wg-eid@un.org. In case of need, the Secretariat will provide more details more specific instructions.

Confidentiality:

The identity of sources submitting contributions to the Working Group is considered strictly confidential, unless consent to public disclosure is expressly indicated in the contribution. Public contributions will feature in the Working Group´s webpage after the deadline.
