Where to find information about HRC resolutions

Adopted resolutions are stored in the Official Document System (ODS) of the United Nations.  

You can locate them by their document symbols. In parallel, many other sites and libraries provide access to these resolutions as well as to a variety of related information.

  • All final resolutions are posted on the ‘Resolutions, decisions, and President’s statements’ pages of the Council session during which they were adopted.
    • These pages provide the document symbols of the resolution drafts, as well as adoption information.
  • The Council’s annual reports and addendums are a compilation of all adopted resolutions and are presented to a specific, year-long session of the UN General Assembly.
  • The Council’s three-year programme of work outlines all mandates and actions that result from the adoption of a resolution.

The Human Rights Council Extranet houses all working documents for specific sessions. No registration is required to access the Extranet. For each session, you will find:

  • all preparatory materials leading up to the adoption of final resolution texts, per session. These include:
    • drafts, revisions and amendments
    • oral statements delivered during the adoption process, organized by agenda item and draft resolution
    • final adoption information and voting records in case of a vote (yes / no / abstentions)
    • information (in table format) on action taken on each draft proposal and the corresponding final numbers of all adopted proposals
  • The Extranet also hosts guidelines for sponsoring and submitting draft resolutions as well as related deadlines.

UN Web TV serves as the official record of all session meetings.

  • Use date, agenda item, and the document symbol of the draft text to find the UN Web TV recording of the live session. Adoptions are usually hosted in the last two days of the session.

UN Geneva Digital Recordings Portal contains recordings of public meetings held at UN Geneva, including those of the Human Rights Council. Recordings are uploaded within an hour of the meeting's end.

  • Use the ‘date’ and ‘organization’ filters to locate the full, chapterized recordings of the session meetings where resolutions were adopted.
  • Recordings are available in the original language in which they were delivered; simultaneous interpretation is also available in all official UN language, and transcripts can be accessed in English, French and Spanish.

UN Digital Library houses over one million documents published by the key UN bodies.

  • Use the Human Rights Council collection to search for resolutions and decisions.
  • The library enables filtering by year.
  • Resolution entries include links to official summary records containing, for each resolution, the adoption information and voting results in case of a vote (countries voting yes / no / abstaining).

OHCHR Digital Library contains records published by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and all of its associated mechanisms and entities.

  • Use the ‘Voting’ collection to search for resolutions based on subject, voting pattern or year.
  • Resolution records include voting summaries, as well as full voting results by country.
