UN expert on rights of people with albinism to visit Panama

GENEVA (25 August 2023) – The UN Independent expert on the enjoyment of human rights by persons with albinism, Muluka-Anne Miti-Drummond, will conduct her first visit to Panama from 28 August to 7 September 2023.

During her visit, Miti-Drummond will assess the human rights situation of persons with albinism with a focus on access to health, education and employment, and the impact of climate change.

The expert will visit Panama City and the Guna Yala province where there is a significant number of persons with albinism among the Guna population. She will meet with various actors, including State and municipal Government representatives, civil society organisations, people with albinism and their representatives.

Miti-Drummond will hold a press conference on Thursday 7 September 2023 at 11:00 A.M. local time at the Marriott Panama Hotel, Albrook Mall, Avenida Roosevelt, Panama City. Access will be strictly limited to journalists.

The expert will present her report to the Human Rights Council in March 2024.
