SPECIAL RAPPORTEUR ON SALE OF CHILDREN, CHILD PROSTITUTION AND CHILD PORNOGRAPHY TO VISIT PARAGUAY

The Special Rapporteur on the sale of children, child prostitution and child pornography of the United Nations Commission on Human Rights, Juan Miguel Petit, will visit Paraguay from 23 February to 5 March 2004.
The Special Rapporteur is scheduled to go to the cities of Asunción, Encarnación, Ciudad del Este, Pedro Juan Caballero and Coronel Oviedo. During his visit, which comes at the invitation of the Government, Mr. Petit intends to meet Government officials, members of the judiciary, parliamentarians and representatives of non-governmental organizations. On completion of the mission, the Special Rapporteur will prepare a report for the sixty-first session of the Commission on Human Rights in March-April 2005.
Mr. Petit, a journalist and social scientist, was appointed Special Rapporteur in July 2001. He has carried out visits to South Africa, France and Brazil.
