UN Human Rights chief Navi Pillay visits Algeria, 17-19 September

GENEVA (17 September 2012) – The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay today begins a three-day mission to Algeria at the invitation of the Government. It is the first visit to the country by a UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.
During the mission, the UN human rights chief is due to meet the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Minister of Justice, the President of the Council of Nation, the heads of Parliament, the Supreme Court, the Council of State, as well as the President of the National Consultative Commission for the Promotion of Human Rights. She will also hold discussions with civil society organisations.
At the end of her visit, on Wednesday 19 September at 1600 hours, the High Commissioner will hold a press conference at the Residence Djenane El Mithak.
