Senior United Nations Human Rights Official to visit Ukraine from 11 to 15 December

NEW YORK/GENEVA/KYIV (11 December 2014) – The United Nations Assistant Secretary-General for Human Rights, Ivan Šimonović, will visit Ukraine from 11 to 15 December 2014 to assess the human rights situation in the country.
During his visit, Mr. Šimonović is scheduled to meet with a number of Government officials as well as civil society actors. He is also scheduled to visit the eastern region of the country.
Mr. Šimonović will hold a press conference in Kyiv on 15 December, launching the eighth monthly report of the United Nations Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine. The press conference will take place at the Crisis Media Centre, Instytutska street, 4 (Hotel “Ukraina,” 3rd floor) at 13:00 (Kyiv time).
On 12 December, Mr. Šimonović will also participate in the presentation of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. The event will take place at 15:00 (Kyiv time) in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mykhailivska Square, 1.
Ivan Šimonović assumed his functions as UN Assistant Secretary-General for Human Rights on 17 July 2010. He heads the New York Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.
