Burkina Faso to be reviewed by UN Committee on Enforced Disappearances

Burkina Faso review

04 March 2016

GENEVA (4 March 2016) – Burkina Faso is due to be reviewed for the first time by the UN Committee on Enforced Disappearances (CED) which is meeting in Geneva from 7 to 18 March.

The Committee, which is composed of 10 international independent human rights experts, monitors implementation of the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance.  Burkina Faso is one of the 51 States that have ratified the Convention and so is required to be reviewed regularly by the Committee.

Committee members will discuss a range of issues relating to implementation of the Convention with a delegation from the Burkina Faso Government on 8 March from 15:00 to 18:00 (14:00 to 17:00 in Ouagadougou) and on 9 March from 10:00 to 13:00 (09:00 to 12:00). The meetings will take place in Palais des Nations, Room VII.

Burkina Faso’s report and a list of the issues that may be raised can be found at:
http://tbinternet.ohchr.org/_layouts/treatybodyexternal/SessionDetails1.aspx?SessionID=1061&Lang=en . The CED will publish its concluding observations here on Burkina Faso and the two other States being reviewed - Tunisia and Kazakhstan - on 18 March.
