UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights to review Colombia, Mexico, Republic of Korea, Republic of Moldova and Russian Federation

GENEVA (14 September 2017) – The UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, which monitors implementation by States of one of the main international human rights treaties, the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural rights (ICESCR),  is meeting in Geneva from 18 September to 6 October 2017. 

The Committee will review these countries on the following dates:  Colombia (19-20 September), Mexico (28-29 September), Republic of Korea (20-21 September), Republic of Moldova (21-22 September) and Russian Federation (25-26 September).

The above are among the 165 States that have ratified the ICESCR and so are required to report regularly to the Committee of 18 international independent experts. The Committee will also hear from NGOs and national human rights institutions.

The public sessions, which will be webcast at http://webtv.un.org/, will take place from 10:00-13:00 and 15:00-18:00 at Palaisdes Nations, Geneva.

The Committee’s concluding observations are an independent assessment of States’ compliance with their human rights obligations under the treaty.
