UN Human Rights Committee to review Central African Republic, Portugal, Tunisia, Uzbekistan, Dominica

GENEVA (26 February 2020) — The UN Human Rights Committee is meeting in Geneva from 2 to 27 March 2020 to review the following countries: Central African Republic, Portugal, Tunisia, Uzbekistan and Dominica.

The above are among 173 States parties to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. They are required to undergo regular reviews by the Committee of 18 independent international experts on how they are implementing it.

The public meetings will be held in the ground floor conference room, Palais Wilson. A full schedule of meetings is available online here. The sessions will be webcast at http://webtv.un.org/, and the recommended hashtag for the session will be #CCPR128.

The Committee will hold dialogues with delegations from the respective States and be briefed by a wide variety of stakeholders, including NGOs and national human rights institutions.

The Committee is scheduled to publish its findings on the respective States, known as concluding observations, here on 26 March. The Committee is scheduled to hold a press conference to present the findings on 26 March at 13:30 pm in Press Room 1, Palais des Nations.

Background 

The Human Rights Committee monitors States parties’ adherence to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, which to date has 173 States parties. The Committee is made up of 18 members who are independent human rights experts drawn from around the world, who serve in their personal capacity and not as representatives of States parties.
