Meetings of States parties & elections
Human Rights Committee
At the Meeting of States parties to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, elections may be held to replace members at the end of their term, or to elect new members due to resignation or death. Each State party may nominate one person from its own nationals to stand for election. Members are elected for a term of four years.
New members of the Human Rights Committee are elected by secret ballot by the States parties from a list of nominees, with due consideration being given to equitable geographical distribution, relevant legal experience and balanced gender representation.
