Amendment of article 20, paragraph 1

At the 8th Meeting of States parties, (CEDAW/SP/1995/2), the Governments of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden made a written request for the revision of article 20, paragraph 1, of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women.
The amendment proposes to replace the words ’normally meet for a period of not more than two weeks annually in order’ by the words ’meet annually for a period necessary’.
The Committee requested that the States parties to the Convention consider the request for a revision of article 20, paragraph 1, at the meeting to be convened in 1995. The amendment shall enter into force when it has been approved by the General Assembly and accepted by a two-thirds majority of States parties.
