Designated Experts of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights
In three different resolutions, the Human Rights Council requested the High Commissioner for Human Rights to designate experts who would monitor and report on the human rights situations in Sudan, Haiti, and Colombia.
Sudan
On 8 November 2021, the Human Rights Council adopted resolution A/HRC/RES/S-32/1, requesting the High Commissioner to designate without delay an expert on human rights in the Sudan. Currently, this role is held by Radhouan Nouicer: High Commissioner Volker Türk designated the Tunisian national as his Expert on the Situation of Human Rights in the Sudan on 16 December 2022.

Haiti
The Council adopted resolution A/HRC/RES/52/39 on 4 April 2023, calling the High Commissioner for the appointment of a human rights expert on Haiti. Consequently, High Commissioner Volker Türk designated William O’Neill from the United States as his Expert on Human Rights in Haiti on 12 April 2023.

Colombia
On 13 July 2023, the Human Rights Council adopted resolution A/HRC/RES/53/22 which requests the High Commissioner for Human Rights to appoint without delay an international human rights expert tasked with identifying and verifying the obstacles to the implementation of the 2016 peace agreement in Colombia, and making recommendations that would help to overcome them. The High Commissioner appointed Urrejola Noguera from Chile as the UN Expert on Human Rights in Colombia on 26 July 2023.
