High-level panel discussion on the tenth anniversary of the United Nations Declaration on Human Rights Education and Training: good practices, challenges and the way forward (29 September 2021)

Pursuant to its resolution 42/7, the Human Rights Council convened at its forty-eighth session, on 29 September 2021, a high-level panel discussion entitled “The tenth anniversary of the United Nations Declaration on Human Rights Education and Training: good practices, challenges and the way forward”. In order to build synergies with relevant United Nations initiatives, the focus of the panel discussion was human rights education for youth.

FINAL ADOPTION BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY (19 DECEMBER 2011)

On 19 December, the General Assembly adopted, without a vote, the United Nations Declaration on Human Rights Education and Training by resolution 66/137. This step marks the final adoption of this new instrument by the United Nations.

Adoption by the Human Rights Council (23 March 2011)

On 23 March 2011, the Human Rights Council adopted the United Nations Declaration on Human Rights Education and Training, which is contained in the annex of resolution 16/1. The Council recommended that the General Assembly adopt the United Nations Declaration.

Open-ended Working Group on the draft United Nations declaration on human rights education and training (10-14 January 2011)

During its meeting in Geneva from 10 to 14 January 2011, the Working Group finalized, adopted and submitted to the Council a draft United Nations declaration on human rights education and training (A/HRC/WG.9/1/2).

Human Rights Council Advisory Committee work on a draft declaration on human rights education and training (August 2008 – January 2010)

Pursuant to the Council resolution 6/10, the Advisory Committee elaborated (August 2008 – January 2010) and adopted (29 January 2010) a draft United Nations declaration on human rights education and training, as contained in Recommendation 4/2 (A/HRC/AC/4/4).
